Hi, I’m Tobie Whitman

After discovering mindfulness and meditation nearly two decades ago, I am grateful for how they shape my daily life.

My teaching approach is informed by the Buddhist mediation tradition (Theravada), contemporary mindfulness practices, somatic awareness, and a deep appreciation for the ways mindfulness can support us in daily life. I’m also influenced by my connection with the natural world and different structured and unstructured therapeutic practices.

I aim to help people develop a kinder relationship with themselves, regulate their nervous systems, and cultivate greater presence in their lives and in their relationships. Whether through meditation, mindful movement, breath awareness, or reflection, I work to create spaces where people can discover that mindfulness is not something separate from life—it is a way of meeting life more fully.

I’ve led different professional lives prior to teaching mindfulness. In 2014, I founded a local floral business called Little Acre Flowers in Washington DC that allowed me to share my love of nature and seasonality. That was a transition from my first professional chapter working in training and research within the field of International Development with several NGOs and the US Government. I am a life long student and have a PhD from Cambridge University and a BA from Harvard.

When I'm not teaching, you'll often find me growing flowers, spending time with my two boys and spouse, playing with my dog, or exploring the ordinary moments that mindfulness teaches us not to overlook.
